Hundreds of children take part in the first annual Havering Orienteering Championships

Stubbers Adventure Centre in Upminster played host for the first annual Havering Primary Schools Orienteering Championships. Held on the 21st March, teams from 10 primary schools from across the borough lined up to tackle the brand new orienteering competition. Along with Stubbers staff, we worked with the Havering Sports Collective to deliver a thrilling competition for the three hundred children that attended.

After a ‘shake down’ to get the athletes prepared, they were started on their course, armed with a map and electronic timing chip to record their time. The penultimate control was positioned on top of a large hill with a long run down into the finish, with crowds of children, teachers and parents cheering the competitors home.

The event created a fantastic atmosphere and enthusiasm for orienteering with children commenting ‘I love orienteering’ and ‘this is the best!’.

We are grateful for the support and hard work of everyone from Stubbers and the Havering Sports Collective and a big thank you to the schools that attended – See you next year!
